ABOUT ME

I remember taking a photography class when I was around eight. Not only did we work entirely with film, but we also got to make our own prints in a darkroom. I still remember the red light, the smell of the chemicals, the awe I felt when the image apparated on the paper. From that moment on, I was a goner.

Being a Millennial, I’ve had the fortune to see cameras evolve, from Polaroids to self-winding cameras, to the digital realm to the ones in our pockets. I’ve held many different types of cameras, from many different eras, and have a deep respect for them. I also come from a long line of photographers on my dad’s side. Which means that photography is, quite literally, in my blood.

I’ve experimented with all different kinds of cameras and methods, both digital and film, and have found a great love for freelensing and trick photography to tell stories about haunted historical places and personal stories about misunderstood ghosts. My work is not meant to be scary or macabre, but beautiful. It is meant to evoke a sense of wonder, maybe even a story, born from the viewer’s own imagination.

Aside from photography, I am a high school art teacher and I currently run the Young Potters’ Club at Capital Arts in JCMO. In my free time I enjoy battling Pokemon, watching anime, and spending time with my family.

ABOUT THE HAUNTED SHUTTER

The Haunted Shutter is a blog about historical—and mostly haunted—locations. Each article is meant to be an informative piece on the history of the location as well as a personal story of my own experiences. I use my love of photography to help tell these stories.

I first started The Haunted Shutter on Wordpress but has recently moved locations to Substack. I not only post articles there, but also newsletters, photos, and general ramblings about photography and the places I visit.

Is there a location you think I should visit? Feel free to contact me and let me know. I’m always looking for more places to add to my bucket list.
